Testimonials by students and mentees

“Guadalupe is so kind and really knowledgable! I felt instantly comfortable in her presence and thoroughly supported in my process. I am an emerging, self-taught artist who began our sessions feeling confused, directionless, and overwhelmed - unsure of what I was doing. Guadalupe helped me find more confidence in my identity as an artist, and helped me get back in touch with my creative spark. Each session left me feeling inspired, grounded, and filled with a sense of possibility. I am also much more clear about my practice and my goals now - which is already making grant and residency applications so much smoother! I will continue working with Guadalupe as a mentor - her benevolent guidance and heartfelt support are exactly what I need to stay true to my journey as an artist. ”

“Sensing Worlds with Guadalupe Martinez was an incredibly transformative and grounding experience. The course came at a time in my life that was shaken up with uncertainty and difficulty and our time together each week was something I looked forward to. Guadalupe is a skilled and compassionate instructor that encouraged exploration and curiousity in our own creative processes while also providing prompts, ideas and techniques as a jumping off point. Sensing Worlds is a moment in time that I credit to helping me become more connected, curious and confident in my own creativity and feeling a greater sense of belonging in the world around me.”

“My 4 mentoring sessions offered a generous container to meet me where I was at. For me, this looked like reflecting on next steps of my art career, and Guadalupe offered really useful insight into navigating the funding system, understanding studio visits and revamping my website. All of this information was immediately useful to me at the time, and continues to support my practice now. These sessions were incredibly helpful to me and I would highly recommend working with Guadalupe!”

“Having Guadalupe as my mentor has given me so many opportunities to advance my artistic practice. Before I believed in myself and saw what I was capable of, Guadalupe was the first person to encourage and support me. Through our time together I have learnt to trust my intuition and focus on doing what feels right to me rather than doing what is expected of me. I learnt to trust the process, even though at times doing so can be scary, overwhelming and nonlinear, and letting the process lead the way as opposed to me controlling the process. I carry the lessons and words of wisdom she has passed onto me in both my practice and life. ”

“The sessions with Guadalupe are generative and inviting. I have become more aware of moments when self-criticism and judgment become blockages to my work, using embodied practices to shift to a caring and focused mindset. I have discovered a deeper sense of engagement with materials. I am cultivating a new understanding of being "productive" and allowing more space for emotional needs throughout the process. Her insights are unique and invaluable in our paths of self-discovery as artists.”

“The grant writing exercise was amazing—I got so much insight from writing together and discovered a genuine way to express myself. Your writing style and approach made this usually laborious process fun and generative. I’m sure this will transform many mentees' writing practices too. Our conversations were always insightful. I love how you’re attentive to the state of mind and point out tension and anxiety in a direct and caring way. I’ve been thinking about how the mind tends to generate blockages and obstacles, and how little attention we pay to it. Shifting the mindset has been something I feel is needed in both art practice and life. ”
